WHAT'S NEW

Porch Chats

Friends, my favourite part of campaign life are the porch chats. Debates are cool, events are great, canvassing is truly inspiring, however porch chats are where it's at. Put me on a porch with you and your neighbours, and let the brainstorming begin.

Our campaign has hit its stride. We're out in the streets every day, knocking on doors, speaking with the beautiful people of Ward 5. Although some of the challenges Ward 5 faces seem discouraging, I promise to have your back!

Vote MACDOUGALL this October.

Reputation is Key

As a community organizer and leader, my friends and neighbours, supporters and fellow volunteers will all tell you; I am inclusive, supportive and transparent.

When electing your city councillors, it’s important to have a clear sense of what kind of leader they will be. Each candidate's reputation today, provides insight into how they will govern in the future. Will they include your perspective when weighing the important decisions? Will they be transparent and forthcoming in their public service? Will they support what is important to you and advocate on your behalf?

I encourage voters to learn about all your candidates. Every registered voter helps elect two councillors per Ward. Please consider candidates that work well with others. This is a meaningful part of the job. Chat with your friends and neighbours and trusted community voices. The word is already out there.

Never hesitate to reach out. I got you!

Love Letter to Volunteerism

Volunteering is at the heart of all thriving neighbourhoods. Why? Because volunteers help build up community, and community makes us all feel connected, included, and important.

When our family moved to Brantford in 2016, we knew only a handful of people. I instantly needed to learn more about my new neighbourhood. What were the challenges here? Where were the opportunities? What types of programs existed? Who were the people in my neighbourhood? My instinct was to reach out to my local NA; East Ward Echo Place Neighbourhood Association. I attended my first meetings as a curious citizen and met engaged neighbours who all shared the common goal of creating an exceptional place to live. I immediately began volunteering for the NA wherever I was needed.

I helped organize and volunteered for park clean ups, holiday events, free concerts, drum circles and flooded rinks in the winter. I helped to facilitate and volunteer for food and clothing security projects, community safety and ward meetings, and also led free ukulele lessons for kids and adults. Most importantly, I was able to assist residents who needed their voices heard.

Today, as co-chair and secretary of this very same NA, I serve as a proud volunteer alongside my amazing friends and community family. Our team of volunteers at @ewepna and across Brantford are incredible drivers of change. I encourage all community minded residents to get involved with your local NA. With contributions big and small, YOU can make a difference!

I love you Brantford,
